Sea fishing in Helgeland, both close to shore and out in the archipelago, offers opportunities for sea fishing. Fishing can be good in many of the fjords.
Fishing is free for everyone with a rod and hand line. At times, you can get a lot of fish, and then it is important to limit yourself to not fishing more than you can take care of. Cod and saithe are fished all year round, while halibut, mackerel and redfish are more seasonal. Otherwise, you can get both haddock, pollock, wolffish and the occasional monkfish.

It is difficult to single out special places for good fishing as there are so many of them. But off the coast just south of Sandnessjøen, there has always been rich fishing for cod, saithe, haddock/coal fish, herring, flounder and wolffish. In Leirfjord, right by the Sundøybrua bridge, is an excellent place for both cod and saithe. Further north into Leirfjorden, you come to the mouth of Leirelva and Ranelva rivers, where trolling for salmon, sea trout and Arctic char can yield good catches.
Fishing from Sørfjorden all the way out to Hemnesberget can be an experience. Elsfjord is a side fjord to Sørfjorden that can be rich in coastal fish.
Driving by car for 15 – 20 minutes will give you a good starting point for fishing in the nearest fjords. Fishing from the rocks down by idyllic Elsfjord is an experience.

Fishing in mountain lakes on state land is permitted as long as you have purchased a fishing license, which can be done on the website www.inatur.no/fiske
There is a very good selection of fishing lakes on state land, mainly trout and Arctic char.
River fishing in the famous Korgelva “Røssåga” is very popular, and has attracted everyone from local fishing enthusiasts to distinguished salmon lords. Korgen camping is a good starting point.

Røssåga is a large salmon river that originates from Røssvatnet. Røssvatnet is Norway’s largest regulated lake, regulated by Statkraft’s production plant in Vesterli.
